The Client

Western Water Solutions are a WA-owned water treatment company providing tailored solutions for potable and process water systems, cooling towers, boilers, and high-purity water applications across healthcare, mining, and manufacturing sectors.
They stand out for their strong compliance focus and engineering precision, including the design and installation of AS5369-compliant reverse osmosis systems.
Challenge
Western Water needed a robust automation solution for a hospital-based water treatment application involving a reverse osmosis (RO) system and a heat disinfect cycle.
This second collaboration with IoTics introduced new challenges, including transitioning from legacy PLCs to future-ready hardware and programming, adapting to updated control philosophies, and ensuring compliance and traceability for hospital sterilisation standards.
Solution
IoTics delivered this as a scalable, full turnkey water treatment control system tailored to Western Water’s latest system configuration.
The design incorporated some of the most high-tech automation hardware on the market and featured advanced alarm animations using JavaScript, an improved P&ID-style overview screen, and seamless hosted SCADA integration for compliance and remote monitoring.
Approach
With prior knowledge of Western Water’s preferences, IoTics worked prescriptively; leveraging internal standards and adapting to their evolving needs.
Close collaboration early on was followed by autonomous execution, ensuring minimal overhead for the client. Detailed electrical drafting and design documentation were also included.
Outcome
-
Fully compliant with hospital-grade standards for uptime, and visibility
-
Seamless integration with the hospital’s Building Management System (BMS) via BACnet
-
Remote support- enabled to support ongoing service needs
-
Provided smarter diagnostics and clearer operational data
-
Ensured traceability of reverse osmosis and heat disinfection cycles for compliance reporting
